Svetlana Kriventcheva is one of the most famous Bulgarian
Tennis players. She was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, where her
residence still is. However, she spends most of the year in
the USA, where she plays most of the tournaments. Svetlana
is not quite known for her singles play, but for her doubles.
She was a constant top 100 player in the doubles, and 200
of the singles, however, she had some accidents, which prevented
her to play. Kriventcheva had reached several times the third
round of the doubles at the US Open,Australian Open etc, she
was playing for the Bulgarian Fed Cup team as well. Kriventcheva
was a Bulgarian Champion. Most of the year 2001, Kriventcheva
was playing in the USA, she had some good performances. She
menaged to return close to the top 200 in the singles (She
is currntly 210). At the Australian Open 1998 debuted for
the first time on a Grand Slam event....to reach the maindraw,
passed three qualifying round ... the second of them was the
hardest, three hours under the hot Austaralian sun ... virtually
won the match vs Langrova in three sets.
