March,'00 Maggie had a great match yesterday. She played vs Serena Williams and though she lost she was quite good and played well. The result 6-4 6-2 against one of the most aggressive players. You can see the match statistics and see that Willians' winners helped her win the match, as well as a better net play. But indeed this was a good match for Maggie.Ivailo Traikov won the Greek satellite's Masters. It will help him to enter back the rankings.Comments

04,04 '00 Maggie is in the main draw of the next Masters series event in Amelia Island. Hopefully she get a good draw. In the qualifing draw is Elena Wagner, but she will probably take part in the Estoril event. There in the main draw is Lubomira Bacheva, who has to reach at least the semis to keep her good ranking at the moment.

In the Cagliari Challenger, Orlin Stanoytchev is the N8 seeded. In the first round he plays the qualifier Julian Boutter of France. Comments

05,04 '00 Pavlina Stoyanova-Nola reached the finals in a $25 000 event in the USA, but she was beaten 2-6 3-6 by an American player. In the same event Elena Wagner retire in the second round. It seems that she still has some problems with her leg. Hopefully, she soon recover and take part in the Amelia Island event, where she has go through the qualifications. I think that she maybe in the main draw of the doubles event. In a $10 000 event in Italy, Svetlana Krivencheva and Antoaneta Pangerova took the doubles title, after a tough final match. They won it 7-5 7-6(11-9). In the beginnig of February the best Bulgarian double player at the moment- S. I think that she has a good draw, hopefully she will be able to reach the quarterfinals where she eventually will meet S. Plischke. Pavlina Stoyanova passed the first round of the qualifications in Amelia Island with a great score, 6-2, 6-1 def. Daniela Hantuchova.

11, 04 '00 It was a bad day for the Bulgarians in Amelia Island. Magdalena Maleeva lost to Sonya Jeyaseelan 4-6 2-6 in the first round of the singles event. At least she is playing the doubles as well and she will have her top form fixed on her doubles performance. She will improve her doubles ranking ( and her form). The other Bulgarian in the draw, Pavlina Nola, was upset by the very young and promising American Alexandra Stevenson 3-6 2-6. Stevenson is a semifinalist of the Wimbledon'99. Lubomira Bacheva def. 13, 04 '00 Maggie has lost the doubles in the first round as well. In the second round of the Estoril Open, Lubomira Bacheva lost to Vavrinec 2-6 6-3 7-6 (7-5) and lost the chance to defend the ranking points from her last years performance and she will probably drop out of the top 100. She lost as well the doubles in the first round. In Italy, in a $25 000 event Desislava Topalova reached the 1/2 finals. Maria Gusheva qualified for the $25 000 event in France this week. In the first round she meets the N3 seeded player in the draw.Comments

17,04 '00 Maggie is playing against Florencia Labat from Argentina in the first round in Hilton Head. If she is successful she is probably facing the N10 seeded Talaja. In the first round of the qualification in Budapest, Elena Wagner is playing against the N5 seeded Nemeckova. Pavlina Stoyanova-Nola and Lubomira Bacheva are playing straight in the main draw. Maria Gusheva from Bulgaria lost in the first round of the ITF Challenger; Cagnes Sur Mer, France ($25,000) event. She lost to the N3 seeded Angelika Bachmann(GER) 7-6 6-3 6-3. She lost the doubles as well. Comments

18,04 '00 Maggie lost in the first round of the Hilton Head event. She fell to Florencia Labat. In Monte Carlo Orlin Stanoytchev lost to F. Santoro. It was reported that Orlin had the initiative all the time, he played more agressively, but when it was to the deciding balls, he was the one to mistake them.

In Budapest, Lubomira Bacheva has a good first round start vs a qualifier, but then she will have to face the N1 seeded Plischke. Lubomira plays the doubles as well. Elena Wagner will play in the main draw after three good qualifing matches. She plays oremans in the first round. She plays the doubles as well

21, 04 '00 Elena Wagner lost 5-7 6-2 1-6 from the N2 seeded Montolio. This is not that bad though, because it seems that Elena regains her best form. In this tourney she's got four matches won. Comments

24,04 '00 Lubomira Bacheva and her partner reached the finals of the doubles event in Budapest. Comments

26,04 '00 Maggie Maleeva refused to play for Bulgaria in the Fed Cup team, though she had given her confirmation. This she did because the other two best ranked Bulgarians - Lubomira Bacheva and Pavlina Nola, as well as the best Bulgarian doubles player- Svetlana Kriventcheva refused to play. Now our team is Desislava Topalova, Antoaneta Pangerova, Maria Gusheva and Filipa Gabrovska, coached by Julia Berberyan Comments

26,04 '00 Antoaneta Pangerova is given an wild card for the WTA event in Warsaw, due to her win in the Milano $ 25 000 event. Afterthat, he has 3 more tourneys in Western Europe.Comments

26,04 '00 Bacheva won her first WTA doubles title. In the final of Budapest, Bacheva and Torrens-Valero defeated hollow Kostanic/Nacuk 6-0 6-2. Best of luck to her Comments

01, 05 '00 The Bulgarian Davis Cup team lost to Greece 2-3 in the first group of the II Euro _african zone, after a 2-0 lead in the first day of the tourney. In Bol are the Bulgarian top tennis players- Maggie Maleeva, who plays in the main draw both singels and doubles, Pavlina Nola and Lubomira Bacheva- both with a win in the qualifications

02, 05 '00Maggie Maleeva plays verses Kostanic in the first round of the Bol Ladies open. If she is successful she will have to meet the N2 seeded Testud of France. Maggie hd played twice verses Testud, both times successful, but it was back in 1996 and 1997. The first time in Chicago she beat 6-3 6-2 and the next time in Hanover 6-1 6-4. Maggie is also playing the doubles -together with Silivia Talaja they meet Sancez-Lorenzo and Leon Garsia in the first round. The doubles play as well Svetlana Kriventcheva.

02, 05 '00 In Hamburg are playing Elena Wagner, Pavlina Nola and Lubomira Bacheva. They all passed the first round of the qualifications. Wagner defeated Zarska 7-6(4) 6-3 and will be playing against either Kandarr or the N1 seeded Serna. Pavlina Nola defeated Stweart 6-4 6-1 and Bacheva -Abe 6-2 6-4. Last year Pavlina made a great performance here, defeating for first time a top 20 player in an official event - Anke Huber.

02, 05 '00 Orlin Stanoytchev plays verses Galo Blanko in the first round of the Mallorca event. If he wins he will face the N8 seeded Jeff Tarango of Spain.

03, 05 '00 Maggie Maleeva lost in th first round of the Bol event in Croatia both on singles and doubles. In the first round of the singles she fell to the young Croatian Fed cup player Konstnic 3-6 0-6, and in the doubles event with her partner Silvija Talaja to the Leon-Garcia/ Sancez-Lorenzo 5-7 1-6. From the next tourney Maggie should start to defeat her ranking points

03, 05 '00 Lubomira Bacheva and Pavlina Nola are going to play vs one other in the Hamburg event. They both passed the qualifications, where they were seeded -Lubomira -N4 and Nola-N8. The other Bulgarian in the qualifications -the young Bulgarian Fed cup player Maria Gusheva replaced Barbara Ritner of Germany but she couldn't pass a round. She fell 6-7 6-3 3-6 to the wild card player Kroff. Elena Wagner also couldn't pass the qualifications. She was stopped bye the N1 seeded Serna of Spain 3-6 2-6. In this Hamburg event the only one Bulgarian tennis player in the doubles is Lubomira Bacheva, who together with Hopmans are playing vs the N4 seeded pair.

03, 05 '00The best Bulgarian male tennis player couldn't pass the first round of the Mallorca event. He was defeated by Galo Blanko. Last year in this same event, Orlin defeated a top 10 player for first time in his career.

04, 05 '00 Lubomira Bacheva passed the first round in the main draw in Hamburg. She defeated another Bulgarian - Pavlina Nola 6-3 6-3 and will now face the N3 seeded player Martinez of Spain, who had a bye in the first round. In the doubles Bacheva and Hopmans defeated the N4 seeded Sidot/Vis 6-0 4-6 6-3. It seems that Bacheva improves her play with every tourney played. In Bol Svetlana Kriventcheva and her partner Kriventcheva/Matevzic passed the first round of the main doubles event. They beat Jurak/Zibar-WC 6-2 6-1, but were defeated in the second round 5-7 2-6

05, 05 '00 Lubomira Bacheva lost in the second round of the Hamburg tourney to the N3 seeded Martinez of Spain. However, it was not a bad lost. She has been really fighting with Martinez, and even won a set. The result 4-6 7-5 4-6 shows that we can expect some suprises of Bacheva. She however continues her doubles performance and is to play with Nola again. Pavlina and her partner Diaz Oliva went in the draw as a LL, but they defeated a very strong pair Huber/ Schett. Elena Wagner and Andrea Glass were given a wild card but they were defeated in the first round

06, 05 '00 Lubomira Bacheva and Amanda Hopmans defeated Pavlina Nola and Diaz Oliva 6-2 3-6 6-1 and reached the semifinals, where they will have to face the N1 seeded pair Kurnikova and Natasha Zvereva. Indeed they both are experienced doubles players, so Bacheva and Hopmans will need really good play

07, 05 '00 Maggie is playing against the talented Kveta Hrdlichkova in the first round of the German open in Berlin. In the same event, Elena Wagner and Pavlina Nola had passed a round in the qualifications and now are to play vs one another in the second round. In Hamburg L. Bacheva and A. Hopmans fell to the N1 seeded pair Kurnikova/Zvereva in the semifinals

08, 05 '00 Lubomira Bacheva plays vs .This however was not the best draw because she will have to meet the N2 seeded Kristina Brandi in the II round if she passes the first one. In the doubles she has even tougher draw. Bacheva and Torrens Valero play the N1 seeded pair in the first round. Pavlina Nola entered the main draw in Berlin and will be playing with the French Amelie Mouresmo. Pavlina defeated Elena Wagner, a Bulgarian who competes for Germany 2-6 6-1 6-2. In Warsaw, the young Bulgarian Dessislava Topalova passed two rounds of the qualifications and is to play for a place in the main draw. Topalova is N5 seeded in the qulifing event. Orlin Stanoytchev couldn't pass the qualifcations and was defeated by the N1 seeded one in the qualifing event - Gaston Gaudio in three sets

10, 05 '00 Well it was an awful beginning of the Bulgarians in the tourneys this week. In Berlin, Maggie had a really tough and close match vs K. Hrdlichkova. Maggie lost the match 6-4 4-6 4-6, which is not a bad reslult. The other Bulgarian in the tour Pavlina Stoyanova-Nola lost to the N8 seeded French player Amelie Mouresmo 3-6 1-6. In the other event of the week - the one in Warsaw, the two Bulgarians lost as well - Desislava Topalova, which passed the qualifcations(she lost in the last round but entered the draw as a LL) for the first time, had a tough match vs and lost in two sets, but at least she has finally enetered the main draw of a WTA event. The other Bulgarian Lubomira Bacheva lost to Mandula, which I didn't expect after the strong play of Bacheva in Hamburg. At least she is still in the main draw of the doubles.

10, 05 '00 Ivailo Traykov lost in the second round of the Lubljana ATP Challenger event $125 000. This is his first appearance in a tourney of that high category. Traykov enetered the main draw after he passed the qulifications. In the same tourney, Milen Velev couldn't pass the qualifications. In the Bulgarian Satellite tourney "ZAGORKA GOLD CUP" only one Bulgarian was able to pass the first round. This is the Bulgarian Davis cup player Ivo Bratanov. The most promissing young Bulgarian tennis player Todor Enev was unable to pass the qualifcations. I just wonder why is he not given a wild card

13, 05 '00 Julia Berberyan is not going to be with the Bulgarian Fed Cup team in La Manga, Spain. She said she prefer to take part in a law discussion in the Bulgarian Parliament ( she is a deputy). It became clear that Maggie won't take place in the Olimpic Games in Sydney, because she couldn't meet the requirements. She must have played at least once in the last two years for the Bulgarian Fed cup team. Last year she was injured and this year she refused to, because Lubomira Bacheva and Pavlina Stoyanova did so. Lubomira Bacheva is also out of the Olimpics. Elena Wagner and Andrea Glass were defeated in the Quarterfinals of the German Open by the N7 seeded pair Tarabini/Vis

14, 05 '00 Lubomira Bacheva plays vs Barbara Rittner in the first round of the Antwerpen event this week. If she is sucessful she will have to play with a tough opponent - either the N3 seeded Clijsters or Hantuchova. In this event Dessislava Topalova should have to be given a wild card for the qualifications, but she is not in the draw. In Rome, Pavlina Nola has passed the first round of the qulifications. She(the N8 seeded) defeated Elwood 7-5 6-3 and is to play with Dell'Angelo.

16, 05 '00 Maggie Maleeva beat S. Pitkovski of France 6-4 6-4, matching her first considerable victory for months. She now has to face the N5 seeded Monika Seles, one of the few tennis players that have never been beaten by a Maleeva. The statistics says that Seles leads 3-1 but I think that victory of Maggie in Hamburg is due to the accident with Monika there. I think it is high time Maggie won vs Seles. The other Bulgarian in the draw is Pavlina Nola, who passed two rounds of the qualifications, will play Shiavone in the first round. In the doubles event Svetlana Kriventcheva and M. Drake had qualified for the main draw. They play vs S. Farina and Rita Grande in the first round

16, 05 '00 Pavlina Nola had passed the first round of the Rome event. She beat Shiavone in three sets. There are two Bulgarians in the second round of a tourney. !!!!!!!! JUST GREAT !!!!!!!!!!

17, 05 '00 In Rome, Maggie Maleeva had a tough match against Seles. The first set 5-7 the next 1-6. Maggie certainly approves her play and gets ready for the French Open.

17, 05 '00 Lubomira Bacheva was successful against the German Barbara Rittner, but the result was mistaken in the web site of the Antwerpen tourney. Meanwhile the Bulgarian Fed Cup team defeated hollow the Turkish one. Both Desislava Topalova and Antoaneta Pangerova took their matches in two sets with no problem.

18, 05 '00 Bulgaria lost the deciding matches in the Fed Cup competition, but we reamain in the same group for the next year . Lubomira Bacheva defeated the N3 seeded Clijsters in Antwerpen and on the 1/4 final she will have to play vs Laurence COURTOIS (BEL) who defeated K. Habsudova in the second round. In the doubles event Bacheva and her partner TULYAGANOVA passed the first round, defeating HANTUCHOVA / NAGYOVA in two sets. Svetlana Kriventcheva and M Darake had not yet played their first round doubles match in the Rome event.

19, 05 '00 Finally Svetlana Kriventcheva and M. Drake played their first round doubles match in the Rome event and eventually they won it in three tough sets 6-7 7-6 6-4. Their next opponent pair will be the N3 seeded pair - J. Halard- Decugis and A. Sugiyama.

21, 05 '00 Lubomira Bacheva lost to the Belgium L. Courtois in three tough sets in the 1/4 finals - 7-6 2-6 4-6. Bacheva and her partner reached the semifinals of the doubles event in Antwerpen, but they withdrew in their 1/2 final match against Appelmans/ Clijsters. In Rome Kriventcheva and M. Drake had a tough match, which they lost, vs the N3 seeded pair J. Halard-Decugis and A. Sugiyama. Maggie Maleeva is in the main draw of the Strassbourg Open, where she will have to start defending her points.

22, 05 '00 Lubomira Bacheva withdrew from the Stasbourg Open, where she was N3 seeded in the qualifications. Hopefully, there is not any serious problem with her. No other female Bulgarian tennis player is on tour this week. Maggie was to play in Stasbourg.

22, 05 '00 In Austria Orlin Stanoytchev had passed the first round and now he will have to meet probably the N3 seeded A. Illie of Australia. In Budapest, Milen Velev had passed the first round of the qualifications. Probably, in the main Draw is Ivailo Traykov. Todor Enev reached the finals of the doubles event in the Junior tourney in Italy. In the singles he was defeated in the 1/8 finals. In the same tourney, Maria Penkova was defeated in the III round.

22, 05 '00 A full set of Bulgarians in Roland Garos. In the main draw of the lady's singles are Maggie Maleeva, Lubomira Bacheva and Pavlina Nola. For a place in the main draw will play Dessislava Topalova and Elena Wagner. In the doubles event are probably Svetlana Kriventcheva, Lubomira Bacheva and Elena Wagner. Hopefuully, Maggie as well. In the main draw of the men's singles is Orlin Stanoytchev.

29, 05 '00 It was a Bulgarian triumph at ath Roland Garos yesterday. The both Bulgarians that had played their matches passed the first round. Maggie Maleeva played very well and give no chance to her opponent to win. She made several breakpoints, but also allowed Smashnova to break back. See the match statistics. Meanwhile, Todor Enev won the singles title at the Italian open for juniors. This is a superb preparation for his Roland Garros performance - last year he reached the quarterfinals there. At the Italian Open, Enev reached the semifinals of the doubles event.

31, 05 '00 Lubomira Bacheva had a really tough match agaisnt the wild card player Vrginii Razzano. Lubomira lost it 7-5 6-7(4-7) 0-6. Last year it was Lubomira who beat Razzano in the first round at Roland Garros. Get the statistics. Pavlina Stoyanova was also crashed out of the French Open. 1, 06 '00 Maggie Maleeva is a winner. She passed the second round of the French Open, beating D. Chladkova. You take a look at the statistics. Now she will have to play with the Romanian Ruxandra Dragomir. They had played several times. Three times Maggie was successful and Dragomir - once. Best of luck to Maggie.

1, 06 '00 Tough draw for the Bulgarian pairs at Roland Garos. Svetlana Kriventcheva and her partner Radka Bobokova are playing the N10 seeded pair Suarez/Ruano-Paskual. Elena Wagner and V. The Bulgarians at Roland Garros in Bulgarian

2, 10'00 Maggie Maleeva plays in Zurich this week. She is the 1994 winner of this event. This year Maggie plays vs Domique van Roost of Belgum in the first round. Maggie had already lost to her some weeks ago in the Pilot Pen event, but now no doubt Maggie will be victorious this time. Tauziat awaits the winner of the match in the second round. 23, 10'00 Pavlina Nola lost the semifinal in Shanghei, but her performance this week will bring her back among the top 100. This week Maggie Maleeva plays in Moskow. In the first round she plays vs the young Russian star Lina Krasnoroutskaya, from whom she has already lost last year in Luxemburg, but now Maggie plays top tennis and I don't think that she will have any problems with her. If Maggie goes to the second round she will play vs Arantxa Sanches Vicario of Spain. In the qulifying event in Moskow, Svetlana Kriventcheva lost in the first round vs Husarova in straight sets. In Bratislava plays Lubomira Bacheva. In the first set she plays vs the N7 seeded Grande of Italy.

In the doubles, however, Maggie didn't play very successfully and lost in the first round. In Slovak Lubomira Bacheva lost in the first round vs the seeded Gersi of Italy 6-2 6-3. In the doubles, paired with her constant partner Torrence-Valero, won in the first round.

26, 10'00 MAGGIE IS A HERO: She had beaten Arantxa Sanches Vicario to enter the qurterfinals. And she did it with a great result 6-3 6-2. And that's also means that she can enter back the top 20 of the world (Now she is at No.22). And for a place in the semis she will play Mouresmo I think that she can make it to the semifinals and than we shall see, if she can do it vs Hingis. I think she is capable.

31, 10'00Maggie Maleeva is playing a wonderful tennis now. She reached the quarterfinals of the Moskow event, and lost to Mouresmo in a very tough match. But she was playing perfect tennis. This week Maggie plays in Leipzig, where in the first round she meets Jana Kandarr, who plays with a wild card. Maggie has all the chances to enter back the top 20 of the world. She has to earn only 64 points in oder to enter the top 20. Now she is at N21. Maggie is No.5 seeded in Leipzig and if she passes the first round she will face either Sidot or Habsudova. Maggie is one of the favourite for this year's comeback award.

4, 11'00 Maggie Maleeva had lost the quarterfinal match vs Anna K. 4-6 5-7, but she did great at Leipzig and I think she will be top 20 now. In Kuala Lumpur will be probably Lubomira Bacheva and Pavlina Nola as well.
